Easter is rich with traditions which stretch back thousands of years, even
before the 988 A.D. conversion to Christianity in Ukraine. Those traditions started
with the annual arrival of spring, the season of hope. After a long, cold and dreary winter in Ukraine, spring
comes early, and with it, a renewal of hope and joy. As the snows melt and the
ice thaws, the birds return with their happy songs and the smell of new life
begins to seep out of the dark soil, now spotted in green. It was a time when nature
seemed again to come to life, and joy filled the human heart. Great Fast |
